Nitrocross wrapped up its first weekend of the season with a second day of racing at the famed Richmond Raceway.
Encompassing all four turns of ‘America’s Premier Short Track’, the event utilized a purpose-built 1.25-mile track featuring our signature gap jump on the start-finish straight, and a 60:40 split of dirt and pavement, making it not just the first dirt event at the track since the late 1960s, but its first multi-surface racing event ever.
Group E
Oliver Eriksson made the most of a first lap mistake from Fraser McConnell to claim his first win of the season in the Group E class. The Olsbergs MSE driver passed McConnell on the opening lap of the race after a half-spin for the Jamaican, and despite facing pressure for the remainder of the six-lap final, managed to hold on to take a win earlier in the season than he ever has before.
McConnell finished second, well clear of third-placed Viktor Vranckx, who became Group E's youngest-ever podium finisher at 19. Saturday winner Robin Larsson finished fourth.

“I just feel bad for Frazzz through all of this. I was tucked in right behind, that was my plan: not to risk anything. That’s been my approach this season, I wanted to finish races this year.”

“Great start, went into Turn 2 in the lead, Turn 3 tried to be nice and neat, and then I just got spun around. It’s tough to swallow.”
Viktor Vranckx
“I feel super happy. I’m grateful for the team – this is really a team effort. I’ve been working hard in the off season, but they had a non-stop off-season. They were working on the car since I crashed in Vegas, so their hard work is paying off as well.”
NEXT EVO
Tommi Hallman was victorious in NEXT EVO, defeating Saturday winner Mitchell De Jong. Casper Jansson rebounded from his disappointing Saturday to complete the podium, pointing to a compelling championship battle in the top support class' maiden season.

“There was so much new stuff… I’ve never even been a spectator in a NASCAR track, and now we’re racing there! It’s so different to what I’m used to. It was difficult in the beginning to find the right setups for the car, I was struggling a bit, but we’re getting closer and closer all the time to Mitchell.
“Yesterday he was still the fastest, but today it turned around – I was a bit quicker in the qualifier and I just kept on going. In the final I think they had some mayhem behind, so I got a clear gap and then just could drive my own lines and that was it.”
“In Europe it’s not the same, this is so much more adrenaline filled. Big jumps and a really difficult track – especially this one – so it’s great.”
Side-by-Side
Last season's dominant champion Kainan Baker returned to the fore in the second Side-by-Side final of the season, defeating Travis Pastrana – who leaves Richmond with the SxS points lead – by 5.55 seconds. Kory Willis made it two podiums from two with third place.

“The race weekend went pretty good. Day one I had some struggles, I messed up on the start, I hit the brake and gas too much on the Side-by-Side and it went into LIT mode, then I got a little contact and it went into LIT mode again. But overall a great weekend, I came back in the Side-by-Side and got the overall win today. I just had a lot of fun.”
